General - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: What is your cancellation and reservation rescheduling policy?

We allow our guests to cancel or reschedule up to 7 days in advance of their tour. There are no refunds within 7 days. If you cancel within 7 days or do not show up for your tour we will charge you 50% of the total price quoted. So please try your best to secure your space and keep your reservations with us.

Q: Do I have to book a reservation in advance?

To maximize your chances of getting the day, time, and number of spaces you prefer, please book well in advance. Reservations can be booked with any major credit card in advance on our website, over the phone, or in person at our office.

Q: Are the tours conducted in English only?

No, our tours can be conducted in English and Spanish. However, if we cannot find a translator for the speaking portion of the tour, our guests will still enjoy the experience of riding a Segway and seeing all of the amazing landmarks along the route.

Q: What kind of souvenirs are available for purchase?

We have great souvenir T-Shirts that can be purchased at our office for only $20.00!

Q: Is there parking nearby the tour meeting point?

Yes, there is parking located near the meeting point. Specific parking details are available over the phone or by inputting our address into any GPS. Mapping program such as Yahoo Maps, Google Maps, or MapQuest are also a great resource for directions and parking.

Q: Are gift certificates available?

Just wanted to thank you for the great time I had today on your segway gaslamp tour. I have just finished telling my friend about it (the one who backed out) and he is now kicking himself repeatedly for that terribly bad decision. For anyone on the fence about taking a tour, let me describe it in one word...AWESOME!

I saw more of San Diego on this tour than I have been able to see the entire rest of my stay. The Segway was a blast and easy to learn, and Kenneth made a great time even more fun and entertaining along the way. Stop thinking about it and JUST DO IT. You'll have a blast, and if you don't you'll regret it I assure you.

KENNYYYYYY!!!!

We had SUCH a blast Wednesday night! Our Segway tour was the highlight of conversation during dinner that evening at the Prado, and everyone is looking forward to doing it again SOON! :) And let me apologize for the behavior of Group 2, lol! They had SO MUCH fun, but I know a few of our more "challenging" individuals were included in that group... can we say Bill? Annette? lol! I'll try and break them up a bit better next time ;)

Q: What if these tour times do not work for me?

Q: What happens if it rains?

The tours are held rain or shine. We ask that you dress appropriately for the day's weather conditions. We do have rain ponchos available for free at the meeting location in the case of rain.

Q: Is the tour appropriate for pregnant women?

Due to safety concerns, the tour is not appropriate for pregnant women.

Q: What are the weight constraints to ride a Segway?

All gliders must be above 100 lbs and below 250 lbs in order to ride a Segway with us.

Q: What is a Segway?

The Segway® i2 is the first of its kind-self-balancing personal transportation designed to go anywhere you go. See all of San Diego's parks, streets, and attractions while enjoying a ride like nothing you've ever experienced. Try one today and you too will discover the Segway smile!

Q: Is it hard to ride a Segway?

The Segway requires no special skills (it takes care of the balancing-on-two-wheels part) and virtually anyone can use one, as long as you can stand on two feet for an extended period of time. In addition to the ingenious technology, all of our tours include a thorough safety and gliding training course given by one of our certified Segway instructors prior to departure.

Q: How fast do the Segways go?

The Segways have different levels of operation. The beginner level will limit the Segway to a maximum of 6 miles per hour. The intermediate level will limit the Segway to a maximum of 12.5 miles per hour. During the training session, new Segway riders will start on the beginner level. Once everyone is comfortable, we will move up to the intermediate level for the duration of the tour.

Q: How safe is the Segway i2?

The utmost care and research has gone into ensuring that the Segway i2 is safe. The Segway i2's balancing technology is truly revolutionary and provides an exceptional riding experience. The Segway i2 has redundant systems and sophisticated alerts built into its design, and many thousands of hours of use have demonstrated that the Segway i2 is safe when used appropriately. It is important that Segway i2 riders understand their responsibility to ride safely. Proper skill level and understanding of the Segway i2 prevents injuries caused by loss of control or misuse.

Q: What Segway model will we be using?

We use the model i2 for our tours.

Q: Do I recieve a discount if I live in San Diego?

Definitely! More than 50% of our guests live right here in San Diego and come to learn more about the neighborhoods and the city in which they live. It's a new and unique way to see the sites with which they may already be familiar, and it is an awesome experience for locals to bring their out-of-town guests to enjoy.

Q: How much time of the tour is actually spent on a Segway?

We provide a 30-minute video and training session at the start of every tour. This is not included in the tour time. Simply put, the tour time you purchase is the time on the Segway that you will get.

Q: Are restrooms available?

Yes, restrooms are available at the meeting location. Unfortunately, we will not be able to make additional restroom stops during the tour, as our time is limited and we want you to visit as many landmarks as possible.

Q: Are cameras allowed on the tour?

Yes, cameras are allowed on the tour. We ask that you do not take photos while on the Segway; your guide will gladly take pictures of you and your group with your camera in front of the spectacular landmarks and highlight of your tour.

Q: May I bring my dog on the tour?

We love pets! Unfortunately, pets of any kind are not allowed on this tour.

Q: Can I store my personal items on the Segway?

We have the ability to transport necessary items like cameras, an extra sweatshirt, or medications. However, we advise you to keep your personal items to a minimum as our storage capacity is VERY limited.

Q: Can I buy food or drinks along the way? What about souvenirs?

Our tour is structured so that we can visit as many landmarks as we can in the allotted time. This leaves very little time for any other stops. We recommend you eat after the tour, as you can only bring necessary items on the Segway. If you are interested in a meal after the tour, please ask or staff and they can get you a list of our recommendations.

Q: What are the meal options like?

Many of our favorite places to eat are in short walking distance from our office. We will be more than happy to show you the way.

Q: Do I have to sign a waiver?

All Segway riders must sign a liability waiver before participating. Riders ages 7 to 17 must have a parent or guardian sign for them.

Q: Can I rent a Segway through Another Side Tours?
